New chemistry – New opportunities
The jointly developed co-polymer technology for Hot Melt Adhesives (HMA) by Corbion and Perstorp is based on a unique functional polymer with very high performance. As a high quality, safe, fully compostable product, exceeding 80% renewable content it contributes to retailers processing and sustainability goals and offers peace of mind on food safety.
The new material creates a strong technology platform for the development of polymers which provide a genuine alternative to traditional technologies for the adhesive industry. The platform is considered a breakthrough innovation for adhesives, based on new lactide (PURALACT® B3) caprolactone (Capa™) co-polymer, that delivers superior benefits in hot melt adhesive applications. Both Corbion and Perstorp are market leaders in their respective fields of lactides (Corbion) and caprolactones (Perstorp).
The first generation of product is expected to be the first in a series of innovations for the adhesive industry resulting from this partnership and is targeting the Case & Carton Food Packaging market.
It is providing adhesive manufacturers a food safe, innovative material that delivers excellence performance, while at the same time improving sustainability footprints.
The product is produced in partnership by Corbion and Perstorp and is expected to be commercially available at industrial scale in the fourth quarter 2015.
