Addressing the supply gap

Fish oil has traditionally been the most common source of long-chain Omega-3s used in the animal feed industries. However, today the world faces a significant shortfall in the supply of long-chain polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids and a race to develop more sustainable ways of obtaining the nutrient, reducing pressure on marine natural resources. 

As a result, the growing demand for sustainable omega-3 fatty acids is a pressing challenge for feed manufacturers and farmers.

 

 

We're pioneering a new way to create Omega-3s that are sustainable, affordable, and at scale.

Microalgae are the original source of marine long-chain Omega-3s DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid). And by growing marine microalgae via fermentation, we produce AlgaPrime™ DHA, an efficient, clean, and sustainable source of long-chain Omega-3s. 

With AlgaPrime™ DHA, we take the middle fish out and help reduce the dependency on fish oil and reduce the pressure on marine resources protecting the oceans while promoting health.

 

Preserving what matters

In our efforts to advance feed and food with sustainable nutrition and meet today and tomorrow's challenges, we designed our production facilities to deliver an advanced level of sustainability in creating microalgae-based Omega-3s, offering low carbon water and land-use impacts.

To make AlgaPrime™ DHA, microalgae are grown in closed fermentation tanks where they transform renewable, sustainable, plant-based sugars into algae containing omega-3-rich oil in a matter of days. 

 

 

We have completed a full Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for the AlgaPrime™ DHA portfolio which demonstrated that Omega-3s from AlgaPrime™ DHA have lower carbon footprint compared to traditional Omega-3s sources of fish oil.
